In the Preschool at Chabad of Fort Lee Pre-K classroom teachers weave author studies into a variety of activities throughout the year. With each story read, the students discuss the title, author, illustrator, end pages, and dedication page. The teachers write math stories throughout the year as well, using the children as the main characters and numbers as part of the story. In Hebrew studies, the children write stories with each new letter discussed. By the end of the school year, there will be a story written by Pre-K for every letter of the aleph bet, using words that start with a particular letter, depending on the letter of the week.
Recently, the children enjoyed a visit from author Meish Goldish. Mr. Goldish has written over 300 fiction and non-fiction books and he writes poetry and original songs. Many of his books include science and math topics in a fun, lively format to help engage children with the purpose of becoming familiar with vocabulary and skills. Mr. Goldish spoke with the children about writing techniques and asked them questions about what they like to write about. In addition, he read to the children from some of his big books.
Another visit from Mr. Goldish is anticipated for later in the year.
