The excellent reputation of Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation in Tenafly has led to the opening of a new clinic in Northvale, New Jersey. Seeing how busy the Tenafly clinic was, co-owners Jessica Lowy and Michal (Micky) Porath realized there was a growing clientele coming from north of Tenafly. “We were looking for a location to match that growth,” they said. Porath explained that Northvale is a wonderful town five minutes from the New York border and conjoins Old Tappan, Northwood, Rockleigh, Alpine, Harrington Park and Demarest on the New Jersey side; with Palisades, Tappan, Sparkill, Orangeburg and Piermont on the New York side.
Northvale was close enough for the owners, and made Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation’s services more accessible to the patients who live further north of the Tenafly clinic. “As it happens,” Porath noted, “the location itself is an indoor pickleball court, Prestige Pickleball. When we heard that they were looking to sublet to a health facility, we thought it would be a great pairing. We have also created a space for a physician to sublease, and are hoping to build out the space so that people have greater access to health care.”
Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation is an outpatient physical and occupational therapy clinic, specializing in all orthopedic and neurological diagnoses from adolescence through adulthood. Their care expands to all ages for diagnoses including neck and back pain, sports medicine, rotator cuff tears, shoulder pain, hip bursitis, ankle and knee sprains and strains. Prime also works with a significant population diagnosed with spinal stenosis, disc herniation, balance dysfunctions and walking difficulty.
In addition, patients with neurological diagnoses such as Parkinson’s disease, diabetic neuropathy, and multiple sclerosis are treated with a focus on maximizing independent function, mobility, fall prevention and safety. Prime offers pre- and post-surgical care for all orthopedic surgeries, including joint replacement, spinal fusion, discectomy, rotator cuff, meniscal repair, and ankle and foot surgery. Recently, the practice has added treatment for pediatric and adult scoliosis, and both Lowy and Porath are Certified Schroth Advanced Clinicians for the treatment and management of scoliosis at any age.
Porath put it simply: “No matter what the diagnosis, we’ve got you covered.”
The new Northvale clinic offers unique benefits, in particular the installation of Schroth Swedish bars. The Schroth Swedish bars enhance the scoliosis specialty treatments for adult and pediatric patients diagnosed with scoliosis and postural dysfunction. In addition, a nice perk is the shared space with an indoor pickleball arena, which can offer patients the opportunity to try a new sport.
At Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation, the objective is complete patient care from the moment you walk through the door, whether in Tenafly or Northvale. “We don’t allow insurance or diagnosis to dictate how many minutes the patient is seen,” said Porath. “Every patient gets more one-on-one time with their therapist. Every evaluation is scheduled for a full hour with a therapist. This allows the therapists to truly identify the root of a patient’s problem and create a highly specialized program for the individual, not the diagnosis.”
Porath continued: “We hire therapists who carry advanced certifications in the Mulligan approach, Maitland approach, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, SI (sacroiliac) joint dysfunction, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification, Dry Needling, Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy. Nothing will change in that sense for the patients receiving care in our Northvale location.” She assured that the Northvale clinic, set up as an outpatient orthopedic office, will be very similar to the Tenafly clinic in offering the same high-quality care, with the added convenience of proximity to patients’ homes north of Tenafly.
Describing what defines the “Prime Ortho Rehab” difference, Porath said, “It is important to understand that not all physical therapy clinics/therapists are comparable.” A well-informed patient takes note of the quality of care they are receiving. Prime Ortho suggests attention to the following important issues:
How qualified and educated is your therapist?
How much time is spent one-on-one with a therapist?
Is someone observing your exercises for correct form?
How many patients per hour does the facility schedule for a therapist?
At Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation, “we start with a full hour for evaluations, one-on-one with the therapist,” said Porath. This allows time to assess the patient’s complaints, evaluate and determine the root cause of the problem, and provide skilled treatment. “We do not just put the patient on an exercise machine and call it therapy.”
Skilled manual therapists perform hands-on treatment for muscle, soft tissue and joint restrictions; therapy programs are highly individualized for each patient’s needs. Patients note that the clinics are warm, welcoming environments that engender confidence in a Prime Orthopedic Rehabilitation team who will meet their needs and help them achieve their goals.
Co-owners Porath and Lowy sum up their mission: “There’s no better feeling of relief when someone understands what is happening to you, and that they can help. That is Prime’s greatest gift.”
