This past Wednesday and Thursday, the Dead Sea Scrolls came to life in the homes of 26 TABC ninth graders. As part of Dr. Elliot Prager’s World History class and study of the Second Temple period, Professor Michael Fishbane, professor of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies at University of Chicago and Teaneck resident was invited to give a two-part series on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Primary sources and copies of Dead Sea documents were uploaded and shared with the students in preparation for the lectures and Professor Fishbane guided the students through the complex and fascinating story behind the discovery of the scrolls as well as their significance for us today.
