Karina Ariev, Karina bat Ira, 19, a soldier at the Nahal Oz military base near Gaza, was taken captive by Hamas early in the morning of October 7, 2023. She was on the phone with her family at 7 a.m. the morning she was abducted. “I realized she was calling to say goodbye,” said her sister Sasha. “She told us to continue our lives.”

Karina is a corporal in the IDF. She graduated from the psychology-sociology and language program at the Teddy Kollek High School in Jerusalem, and is planning a career in psychology or cosmetology. Her family speaks Hebrew and Russian in their home.

She appeared in a Hamas video on January 26, 2024, along with two other captives, Daniela Gilboa and Doron Steinbrecher.
