Sahar Baruch, HY”D, 25, was kidnapped from Kibbutz Be’eri on Oct. 7, 2023, by Hamas terrorists. He was shot as he left his grandmother’s burning house, where he had stayed behind to find an inhaler for his brother Idan, 20. Idan, a soldier serving in the education corps, was killed by the terrorists as he left the house that day. Their grandmother, Geula Bachar, was also murdered on that day.
Sahar also served in the IDF education corps and was accepted to the electrical engineering program at Ben Gurion University.
He was held in Gaza until Dec. 8, 2023, when he was killed in a failed rescue attempt in which two soldiers were severely injured. In a statement, Kibbutz Be’eri and the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said of Sahar, “We share in the unbearable grief of his parents, Tami and Roni, his brothers, Guy and Niv, his family, and all his loved ones.”
Sahar’s body has not yet been returned.
