(Courtesy of Project Ezrah) This past fall, camp registration forms started going out. Even more anticipation than normal was in the air because many children did not get to attend camp the previous summer and were eagerly looking forward to going back. However, this year not everyone is in the same position to pay for camp as they had been before. As the year continues, families are finding themselves facing new financial challenges and uncertainty. As camp registration opened, parents started reaching out to the camps asking about financial assistance.
“Our camp is based in Passaic, but we have a large contingent of girls who come from Bergen County. For families who live in Passaic, we have resources to help them get funding for day camp, but there was no similar option for the girls from Bergen County,” said Sara (Younger) Klarberg of Camp Summer Playland. “I decided to reach out to Rachel Krich at Project Ezrah to see if the organization could help the families from Bergen County. I presented Rachel with the idea of getting local camps together to do a giveaway that would raise money for a scholarship for Bergen County families and have Project Ezrah administer it. We then reached out to other camps that have large cohorts of kids from Bergen County to put this great fundraiser together!”
Four camps have come together to each offer a free session of camp; Acheinu, Camp Shalom, Regesh and Summer Playland. Those who buy tickets for the giveaway can pick how many entries they want for each camp, and four lucky winners will each win a free session from one of these camps!
The best part is, the prize is transferable to anyone. If you have a child in your life planning to attend one of these camps and you win the prize, you can give them your free half. All proceeds will go towards the Project Ezrah Day Camp Scholarship Fund and will help other kids in Bergen County go to camp this summer. The scholarship fund applications will be open right after Pesach, and families can apply for assistance to any day camp.
Tickets are $36 each or 4 for $100. Buy them at ezrah.org/summer-camp-partnership.
The giveaway is open until March 21, and winners will be notified by March 22.
Applications for the scholarships will be posted on the Project Ezrah website starting April 12.
