Publisher of The Jewish Link Visits SINAI at RYNJ

River Edge–The SINAI middle school students at RYNJ invited the publisher of The Jewish Link of Bergen County, Mr. Moshe Kinderlehrer, to speak to them about making a newspaper. Over the past year, many of the students have been working on The SINAI Review, a student run newsletter, while others had begun learning about current events, making Mr. Kinderlehrer a top choice to speak to the students. Mr. Kinderlehrer explained that a newspaper is like “a cholent,” a mix of many things such as sports, technology, advertisements and current events. He explained that he started off on his dining room table with a paper and pencil. Now, The Jewish Link has grown to over 20 staff members, a printing press in Philadelphia, and prints thousands of copies each week.

Prior to Mr. Kinderlehrer’s arrival, the students sent him questions that he answered during his visit. For example, how does he decide which of the local, national and international news items to include in the paper. At the end of his presentation, Mr. Kinderlehrer took the time to autograph newspapers.

All the students enjoyed the presentation and learned the hard work and dedication that goes into publishing a successful newspaper.
