Q&A With the Administration Of ZDR Academy of Yeshiva Rambam

What is ZDR?

Zvi Dov Roth Academy (ZDR) is a Modern Orthodox coed yeshiva high school, serving both Ashkenazi and Sephardic students, located in the heart of Brooklyn. It was founded in 1997 to respond to the pressing need for a new and innovative yeshiva high school. Our school balances traditional Torah study with the pursuit of secular academic excellence, stressing Jewish observance, a love for the Jewish people, the state of Israel and the Hebrew language. Zvi Dov Roth Academy offers outstanding multi-level Limudei Kodesh and general studies curriculums designed to enhance the students’ interests and talents. Our ultimate goal is to foster a lifelong commitment in our students to living life with the values of Torah U’Maddah—as a Torah Jew able to engage in our modern world.

What type of curriculums do you offer?

Our curriculum is designed to be challenging and appropriate to the present and future needs of our students. Our school day begins at 8:15 a.m., and ends at 4:00 p.m. Our intensive Judaic Studies curriculum includes Gemara, Chumash, Navi, Halacha, Hashkafa and Hebrew language. Daily minyanim take place in our beit midrash. Our comprehensive General Studies Program prepares each student in all subjects such as math, science, history, language arts, economics, business and computers.

We are a New York State Regents accredited high school. Our students take all the required and elective courses as specified by New York State. The majority of our students graduate with a NYS Regents diploma and go on to prestigious colleges and yeshivot in Israel. ZDR Academy is known for our outstanding and dedicated faculty and staff. All teachers are licensed, and their educational and professional credentials are exemplary.

In an effort to encourage continuing improvement in technology, interactive learning and communication, classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art smartboards and laptops for teachers and students. We utilize Google Classroom for homework and have found it is an excellent tool for parents to monitor their children’s progress and communicate with the teachers.

COVID-19 Compliance

We believe there is no substitute to in-person learning. As such, we take every precaution so that our staff and students remain healthy. COVID-19 guidelines are strictly adhered to. Our expansive building is conducive to social distancing. Masks are worn by staff and students throughout the day. If the need once again arises for remote learning, we are fully prepared. Remote classes are conducted on Fridays and fast days.

What extracurricular activities do you offer?

ZDR is particularly proud of its Chesed program, which encourages each student to become involved in the broader Jewish community, developing a caring feeling by helping the physically or spiritually needy.

What are the tuition fees?

Our full tuition is $8,000 a year, and we offer tuition assistance as needed. We are privileged to have Alex Rovt, Ph.D., who serves as president emeritus of ZDR, support our yeshiva, allowing us to offer a high-level education without charging high tuition.

To sum it up in a few words, who should apply to your school?

Zvi Dov Roth Academy is the ideal school for the student who is seeking a small, by design, Modern Orthodox school and is committed to learning and growing in Torah values as well as general studies. Our students feel a strong sense of unity, and are inspired to develop their love for Hashem, Am Yisrael and our Torah. ZDR encourages each student to actualize their potential in a warm and challenging environment. A ZDR student is proud of his or her heritage and is prepared for the future.
