On Sunday, July 16, the Daf Hashovua National Siyum on Maseches Beitza will take place at 7:15 p.m. at Ohel Rivka Hall in Passaic. The siyum is free and open to the public (men and women). RSVP is required to attend the fleishig seudas mitzvah.
Daf Hashovua, or Daf-a-Week, is the Gemara-learning initiative enjoyed by over 2,000 laymen world-wide in which a double-sided page is studied all week long at a reasonable pace. Daf Hashovua offers its participants a structured schedule of learning that encourages unparalleled, deeply satisfying growth in limud haTorah, resulting in the program’s remarkable growth since its inception. This enables the Gemara to be studied in a regular, structured learning format with daily chavrusos or shiurim, weekly in-depth chaburos, marei mekomos (source notes) and optional weekly tests. The free program is open to all Jewish men.
The Daf Hashovua program will be completing Maseches Beitza on Sunday, July 16, and starting Maseches Rosh Hashana. Rosh Hashana will be completed in only eight months, on March 10, 2018.
The July 16 Daf Hashovua National Siyum celebration will begin with a mini Yarchei Kallah program on Maseches Beitza from 4:30 until 7 p.m. The Yarchei Kallah will take place at Bais Torah U’tefilloh (BTU), located at 218 Aycrigg Ave. in Passaic. BTU is located exactly 500 feet from Ohel Rivka Hall, which is in the Bais Yaakov of Passaic.
At 4:30 p.m., there will be a one-hour learning seder for men to finish or review the end of Maseches Beitza in the upstairs beis midrash. Optional marei mekomos will also be provided.
At 5:30 p.m., there will be a 50-minute question-and-answer session in the downstairs beis midrash on the practical halachos of Maseches Beitza, i.e., hilchos Yom Tov. The panel will consist of two distinguished talmidei chachamim, Rabbis Schachne Weinberger and Chaim Krause. This will be followed by a 35-minute shiur on the unpublished manuscript of the Ritva on Maseches Beitza by another distinguished talmid chacham, Rabbi Shlomo Gottesman.
At 7 p.m., the siyum event will begin at Ohel Rivka Hall with Mincha. Following Mincha, the guest speaker will be the noted lecturer Rabbi Fischel Schachter, R”M Yeshiva Torah Vodaath. The siyum will be led by Rabbi Larry Rothwachs. This will be followed by dancing and then an exclusive dinner/seudas mitzvah. The opening of Maseches Rosh Hashana will be led by Rabbi Yaakov Glasser, followed by a video, bentching and Maariv.
