Rabbi Moshe Miller Will Be Scholar in Residence at Keter Torah This Shabbat

Rabbi Moshe Miller, author of the acclaimed book “Rising Moon, Unraveling the Book of Ruth,” will be scholar in residence this Shabbat, May 6, at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck. Rabbi Miller, a resident of Jerusalem since 2010, was ordained at the Ner Israel Rabbinical College and earned an MA from Brown University in philosophy; he has been a Jewish educator for nearly 40 years. Most recently he was the Rosh Kollel of the Boca Raton Community Kollel and a lecturer at Michlalah Jerusalem College for Women. He will be teaching throughout Shabbat at Keter Torah on topics relevant to the Book of Ruth and Kabbalat HaTorah. Please see the Keter Torah website, ketertorah.org, for the full schedule.

Rabbi Miller’s book presents a revolutionary new reading of the Book of Ruth. Beneath the surface of this seemingly simple story, the Talmud and Midrash trace a tangled web of primal issues—the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden, the painful paradox of the limitations of hesed, the coercive nature of kabbalat ha’Torah and the mystery of yibum. The book has been hailed by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Saks as, “A bold, original and deeply thought-provoking work,” and by Dr. David Shatz as a book that “Combines many virtues: intellectual power, erudition, psychological insight and sensitivity to nuances of language and character.”

The book will be available at Judaica House, 478 Cedar Lane, in Teaneck.
