Classes are in full swing after welcoming back students and faculty. RPRY held an ice cream social for new and returning families, as well as back to school nights, establishing the partnership between teachers and parents from the start.
Each year, there is a school-wide theme woven throughout programming to enrich learning and the school community. Last year, the focus was on achdut (unity). One of the many components of that theme included a program that paired older and younger students together for community building events. One such activity was a “Friendship Mural” that the pairs created together in the school. This year’s theme is kavod (honor). Already, teachers nominate students for recognition whose actions show honor and respect to their peers, teachers and the school, beyond expectation.
On September 9th, Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva commemorated 9/11 with a special visit from Dr. Craig Ostroff, who was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Public Health Service at that time. Dr. Ostroff shared his powerful story with the Middle School of his experience on duty in the Washington, DC area during the horrific events of that day and their aftermath.
RPRY is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Color Run, happening at 9:30am on September 25th at Papaianni Park in Edison, NJ. The Color Run is a school fundraiser dedicated in loving memory of Morah Miri Gordon, a longtime educator at RPRY. Funds raised support the school’s educational initiatives. Runners of all ages participate, sporting RPRY Color Run sunglasses, caps, and white shirts that won’t be white for long. Running or walking around the lake in a quarter-mile loop, participants find themselves dusted with various color powders as they go. Face-painting, hand impressions on our commemorative panel, and other family activities round out the fun. The RPRY Color Run is a feel-good, community building event that gets the school year off to a smashing start. It is open to the general public and appropriate for all ages, so bring the whole family! For more information, please visit www.rpry.org.
