Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald z”l

The Jewish Link joins the larger Jewish community in mourning the passing of Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald. When he was not engaged in international diplomacy, including having been one of the negotiators to free Natan Sharansky, Rabbi Greenwald was busy operating Camp Sternberg, a summer camp in the Catskill Mountains. He also founded Monsey Academy for Girls, a private high school in Rockland County. Greenwald served as presidential liaison for President Richard Nixon to the Jewish community during the Nixon administration and was involved with Soviet spy trading, international hostage mediation, and other forms of high-stakes, high-intrigue diplomacy. He also served as a chairman or member of many Jewish communal boards and institutions. His innumerable acts of kindness were, in many cases, unknown to the general public. His involvement in acts of chesed in both the private and public arena are innumerable.

He loved each and every Jew regardless of their background. The loud resonance of his voice filled many conferences that took place on Shabbos when his voice needed no amplification.

May his memory be a blessing.
