Teaneck—Every Motzei Shabbos, Keter Torah hosts the Brooklyn broadcast of a weekly shiur in Navi (Prophets). Given by R’ Yisroel Reisman, the R’ of Agudas Yisroel of Madison, NJ, it is a shiur heard around the US and beyond.
R’ Reisman’s exegesis of the text is unique. He isolates a pasuk in Navi—currently from Sefer Yehoshua (Joshua)—and expounds on that pasuk to tie into a topic everyone can relate to. Murray Goldstein has attended the shiur for many years, and enjoys the opportunity to attend a Navi shiur. He says, “The shiur is so much more than just Navi. R’ Reisman finds a specific pasuk—sometimes just one or two words—and from there he gives a timely and pertinent shiur. The topics have been about shidduchim, complaining, or other applicable matters.”
The shiur attracts listeners from all over Teaneck, as well as other parts of North Jersey. Rochelle and Howard Gans of Paramus look forward to the listening with a weekly circle of “regulars.” Rochelle Gans says, “R’ Reisman brings forward serious ideas interlaced with gentle humor and wit that humanizes and personalizes the concepts he conveys.”
Each shiur is its own entity, so a person who is not there for other shiurim may attend sporadically and still gain the full benefit of the shiur.
The shiur is held at Keter Torah on Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Once the clocks change, the timing will change accordingly. The shiur goes on hiatus during the late Saturday nights of summer, with the last shiur usually around Shavuos. Fans eagerly await its return in the fall.
