Englewood—Rabbi Yitzchak Etshalom, a master teacher and popular lecturer worldwide, will be the scholar-in-residence at Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Englewood on Shabbos, June 28, 2014. Rabbi Etshalom will be speaking before Mussaf, during a special paid luncheon, and during seudat shlishit (approx. 8:15 p.m.). The luncheon is $36 per person for adults and $25 per child. Rabbi Etshalom will speak on: “Coaxing Waters from the Rock: Re-examining Mei Merivah” on Parashat Chukat; “Bilam’s Wild Ride” on Parashat Ballak; and “Introducing the ‘New School of Orthodox Tanach Study’— or is it?”
Rabbi Etshalom serves on the faculties of the Yeshiva of Los Angeles, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and chairs the Bible Department at Yeshiva University High Schools of Los Angeles. He is the author of two volumes of Between the Lines of the Bible, which incorporates a traditional approach to the Torah text and insights from a variety of academic fields such as anthropology, archeology, philology, and literary analysis, to yield greater depth and insight.
