(Courtesy of Rabotai) Back in 2017, professional beatboxer Daniel Brill had the idea of starting a professional Jewish a capella group. Having previously performed with some of the top names in Jewish a capella in the U.S. and Israel, he wanted to do more than what was available at the time. After making aliyah in 2014, he saw a gap in the Israeli simcha scene, and wanted to fill it. The genre of modern Jewish American style a capella was only beginning in Israel, and while being part of various groups, he felt that he could do more.
He discovered music producer Yonatan Stern via YouTube, and they teamed up to lay the groundwork for what was to become Rabotai Jewish A Capella. Yonatan has since become known as one of the best a capella arrangers in Israel, and still works on projects with Rabotai.
Since their debut in 2018, Daniel has taken Rabotai national and international, performing across Israel as well as in the UK at concerts, weddings, bar/bat mitzvot, community events and more. Things were looking strong, then corona hit! At the peak of Rabotai’s busiest season the world shut down, and the world of events took a huge hit. As many did, Rabotai focused on their online work. Having released some major music videos in 2021, including their Purim video, which is their most successful one to date, they have built a strong fan base for a fresh group on the scene. They also appeared on the “X Factor Israel”!
Their latest project to gain momentum is “Shabbat With Rabotai” a five-part series giving a glimpse of what bringing the group to your event would be like. You will see fun and energy and feel the soulful harmonies as they take you from Kabbalat Shabbat to the meals, all the way till Havdala. Of course Rabotai teamed back up with their original producer Yonatan Stern, who was responsible for both music and video production.
As to what’s next … Well, they are busy preparing for events in London and Israel, as well as keeping their eyes on a U.S. debut. For more information, you can reach Rabotai at [email protected], call on 00972 54 883 9521, or look them up on Facebook and YouTube.
