Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School Readies Innovative Initiatives for 2016-2017

Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School is excited to share examples of a number of the innovative academic programs and initiatives planned for this coming academic year that express the vital, focused values of the school’s mission, as expressed in its six value propositions.

Students will connect to Torah with a unique program where students will choose what topics they would like to learn about from a selection of engaging, relevant new courses that range extensively, from “Torah, Science and Medicine” to Chassidut. All RKYHS students in grades 9 and 10 will be participating in a tefillah educational program that was specially prepared under the guidance of Rav Zvi Rimon, Shlit”a, of the Mercaz Halacha V’horaah. Using the newest in the series of textbooks called From the Sources With Spirit, the curriculum aims to present tefillah in a clear, comprehensive way that is understandable and relevant to the students.

RKYHS will also be providing the opportunity for students to develop foundational skills in research and writing in each grade, learning to think critically and further advance academic excellence. Another important initiative will be the growth of a robust financial literacy program. Seniors will have the opportunity of selecting an Advanced Placement Macroeconomics course or a curriculum based on the work of noted financial planner David Ramsey. These courses will offer students a comprehensive, engaging and interactive overview of core macroeconomic principles such as interest rates, inflation, monetary policy, fiscal policy, opportunity cost and other economic concepts that are the vital building blocks of 21st-century finance.

Through an interdisciplinary collaboration process utilizing the school’s beautifully redesigned and renovated 21st-century library, students will learn to research and write in ways that advance and strengthen their skills and prepare them for longer, detailed research papers. This collaborative approach will help assure that each student gets not only an academically excellent education, but can also explore opportunities and develop their identities so that they are inspired and empowered to make a difference.
