The Latin American Culture Club Zoomed with a speaker from Argentina to discuss Argentina’s first sustainable school, Escuela N12 de Mar Chiquita, which he helped build. Leo Sardi explained how everything at the school works, from the solar panels, to the rainwater filter and recycling system, to how they plant the foods they need. Club president Maya P. ’25 learned about this school in AP Spanish last year, taught by Dr. Astrid Roldán. Since Maya’s mother is from Argentina and Maya was heading to Argentina for that spring break, she took initiative and reached out to the directors. She coordinated a visit to the school and recorded her time there; not only had Mr. Sardi served as a volunteer to build the school, but he gave her a tour when she visited. Fast forward to this year, and Maya invited Mr. Sardi to meet with her club over Zoom. While he spoke to the club, Maya shared the pictures she took so students could gain an even better understanding of this special institution. It was a truly exciting opportunity for Ramaz students to learn from people in other countries.
