Ramaz Provides Hurricane Relief in Asheville, NC

When a community is in need, Ramaz students are there to make a difference. A group of upper school students traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, to help rebuild neighborhoods that were devastated by Hurricane Helene and the subsequent flooding. They worked with the organization Nechama Jewish Response to Disaster to demolish homes that were too damaged to live in so that the community can start to rebuild. One day of the trip, they visited Swannanoa, a valley between two mountains that was one of the most devastated areas by flooding. Students were particularly moved by their conversations with a resident, Ms. Linda, whose home was flooded and needed to be demolished. Joseph K. ‘26 was moved, “Ms. Linda practically lost everything, but she couldn’t stop smiling and joking with us. She taught us to look on the bright side of life no matter what.” “We helped her rebuild her home and connected with her along the way,” said Nathan P ‘26. “We wish her the best and we will hopefully meet her again.”
