Performing arts is woven throughout the Ramaz experience—from the first day of nursery all the way to the upper school graduation ceremony. In December alone, the Ramaz community was treated to three fabulous student performances across the lower school, middle school and upper school.
The upper school set sail with a production of “Anything Goes.” With an elaborate set complete with professional sound and lighting, fabulous costumes and, of course, incredible performances by student actors, it felt like an evening at a Broadway show. The audience included a contingent from the Ramaz class of 1994, who performed “Anything Goes” for their senior play 30 years ago.
The Ramaz middle school celebrated Chanukah with a student and teacher talent show! There was a wide variety of acts—ballet dancers accompanied by a classical pianist, a stand up comedian, a diabolo juggler, an improv performance and even a magician who pulled a full doughnut out of his mouth! At the end of the talent show, all the performers returned to the stage for one final, collaborative performance: everyone sang along to the beloved “Candlelight” by the Maccabeats, and the whole audience joined in.
The second graders in the lower school performed for their families to celebrate receiving their very first Chumashim. They performed beautiful songs in Hebrew, like “Lech Lecha” and “Vezakeini” for their families and parents. They also each took turns telling the audience in Hebrew why they were excited to receive their Chumash and what learning Torah means to them. Then, they were called up one by one to say bracha on the Torah and get their personalized chumash with their name on it. There was not a dry eye in the audience.
