The TEC (Technology, Engineering, and Computing) program at Ramaz is creating a generation of builders, problem solvers and entrepreneurs. Students in the middle and upper school spent the fall semester coding and engineering their own robots and prototypes, and showed them off during final competitions and presentations. The Middle School Robotics Club flexed their skills among 37 regional teams in the VEX Robotics Competition, having worked on their robot for the past four months. Meanwhile, in a Shark Tank-style, the freshmen TEC class combined creativity and public speaking when they showcased their own machines, which they’d built incorporating lighting, sound and motion sensing. Building on the skills cultivated throughout their Ramaz careers, the TEC Senior Capstone class wowed peers when they unveiled their capstone inventions, including an app that helps the food insecure access community fridges and a site that educates children about harmful cosmetics. They presented their prototypes and plans, from UX/UI coding to information gathered from potential clients. In this yearlong course, students identify any problem in the world, devise a technological solution, build it and master how to pitch the inventions to users and investors.
