Ramaz students were honored to hear from mohel, author, lecturer and stroke survivor, Rabbi Paysach Krohn. He focused on the power of tefillah and how it is a conduit for connection between a Jew and God, and a Jew and their community. Rabbi Krohn shared remarkable stories and examples of peoples’ lives being saved, wishes being granted, and connections made, because of the power of their prayers. He emphasized the importance of praying for others in addition to praying for oneself. He also highlighted the power of interpretation: each time a person prays, they can give new meaning to the words, interpreting it in a way that helps them connect differently and feel the most power and connection from their tefillah. He recommended that every Ramaz student have their own personal siddur in which they underline passages and words in the tefillah that resonate with them.
