The Ramaz Upper School was privileged to meet with Glenn Cohen and hear about his extraordinary experiences and contributions this year. Glenn moved to Israel after graduating Ramaz in 1982 and became an air force pilot in the IAF and then joined the Mossad. The Mossad then sent him for a degree in clinical psychology to prepare him to work with POWs and hostages in negotiations and to work with captives upon their release. He then retired, but rejoined the IDF on October 7, assembling a team to be the first ones to meet with freed hostages, to help them experience a “soft landing” and adjust to their new environment, and to also gain critical intelligence that has led to successful rescue operations. He attributed much of his successes to his Ramaz education and spoke about the importance of being driven by values, such as valuing all lives equally, and Israel’s dedication to all of the hostages—both Jewish and non-Jewish.
