Dr. Roldan’s senior Spanish Culture and Language class visited the “Morgan’s Bibles Splendor in Scripture” exhibition at the Morgan Library.Among other amazing credits, the Morgan Library is the only institution in the world to possess three copies of the Gutenberg Bible! The class saw, enjoyed and learned from many incredible rare texts and exhibits, including:
- The Biblia Latina Mainz: Johann Gutenberg and Johann Fust, ca. 1455. The Biblia Polyglotta, vol. 1 Alcalá de Henares: Arnao Guillén de Brocar, 1517, which is a multilingual edition of the Bible with Latin, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic (“Chaldean”) texts.
- The earliest surviving first five verses of the Septuagint’s Genesis.
- The “Medieval, Money, and Morality” exhibition, which displays the economic revolution that took place at the end of the Middle Ages and early Renaissance.
