Rapids and Cougars Varsity Basketball Teams Split Season Series

Nerves were high when the Varsity Rapids got ready to play Frisch for the first time this season. The team came out aggressive but patient on defense, pulling rebounds and steals.

Seniors Tamar Segal, with six points and Rachelli Zomberg, with five points, played tight and protected the outside shots and paint. Point guards Felder and Mirwis dribbled through traps in their press providing opportunities for forwards. Junior Rebecca Malech also helped on man/man and pulled down rebounds, adding two points to the board. Both Sari Alexander and Leora Adler went up for putbacks and dominated the boards scoring ten between them. Senior captain Michal Horn was in a zone with five three-pointers (four in the second quarter). Her 17 points and the solid defense of the entire team resulted in a big win for the Rapids. The final score was 40-19.

The Cougars bounced back when the two teams met less than a week later. With a final score of 56-40 Cougars, the winner of the season series will be determined when the two teams meet in the postseason game.
