(Courtesy of Rebbetzin Peggy Gopin Weiss Mikvah) The Rebbetzin Peggy Gopin Weiss Mikvah of Englewood is excited to announce its eighth annual dinner, taking place on Sunday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Ahavath Torah.
This year’s event will feature renowned guest speaker Allison Josephs, founder and executive director of Jew in the City. Established in 2005 as a YouTube channel, Jew in the City has grown into a prominent social media platform dedicated to addressing and reshaping misconceptions about religious Jews. Through its engaging content, the organization seeks to present Orthodox Judaism in an accessible and meaningful way. Josephs emphasizes a philosophy rooted in kindness, tolerance, sincerity and thoughtful engagement, offering a compelling perspective on Jewish life and tradition.
With over two decades of experience in Jewish education, Josephs also serves as a Partner in Torah mentor to actress Mayim Bialik. In 2022, she was honored by Variety in its Inclusion Impact Report for her advocacy of inclusivity within the entertainment industry. Her insights and expertise have been featured in numerous prominent outlets, including Variety, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, People Magazine, New York Post, Daily News, TMZ, The Daily Beast and The Hollywood Reporter.
As the keynote speaker, Josephs brings a wealth of knowledge and passion, making this event a truly inspiring opportunity to celebrate the mikvah and engage in meaningful discussions about religious identity and community.
The annual event is always a special evening that brings the community together, inspiring women from across Bergen County.
“The Englewood Mikvah is independently run of any other institution, and our annual event and fundraising is special because it not only helps to cover a significant amount of the annual operating cost of running the mikvah, it is also an opportunity to be together, as a unifier of all the women of our entire community, Ashkenazi and Sephardic, younger and older, assembling women from the four corners of the neighborhood in one room,” said Careena Parker, vice president of the mikvah and director of fundraising.
It serves as a meaningful opportunity for women of all ages to connect, celebrate and support a time-honored cherished tradition that unites them all.
“We are thrilled about this year’s annual event,” said Leslie Kanner, president of the mikvah. “The dedication and hard work of the event chairs and committees reflect the unwavering commitment of our community to the Englewood Mikvah.”
Raffle packages generously contributed by community members add an extra layer of excitement to the evening. These packages feature incredible prizes, including artwork, spa experiences, cooking bundles, aesthetic treatments, women’s health services and more. For many of those attending, the raffles are a true highlight of the event, combining fun with community spirit.
The Mikvah of Englewood is a cornerstone of the Jewish community in Bergen County, dedicated to upholding the mitzvah of family purity. Since the new mikvah opened in 2016, it has provided a tranquil, private and spiritually enriching environment for women.
“For me, going to the mikvah is my only time to connect to Hashem without any distraction,” said a member of the Englewood community. “I look forward to this time each month, especially because the Englewood mikvah is so beautiful, serene and inspiring.”
Key features include:
Seven dressing rooms, including a spacious bridal suite.
Two heated immersion pools, meticulously designed to meet ritual requirements.
A dedicated keilim mikvah, for the immersion of utensils.
Handicap accessibility, ensuring inclusivity for all.
With over 3,000 visits annually, including more than 40 brides, the mikvah plays a pivotal role in the spiritual lives of its users. Its contemporary design and thoughtful artistic details create a warm and inviting space, fostering a sense of connection and community for all who visit.
To sustain its vital operations and close the gap between usage fees and its budget, the mikvah depends on the generosity of community members like you. We warmly invite all members of the Englewood, Tenafly and greater Bergen County communities to join us for this meaningful and inspiring event. Your support is essential in ensuring the mikvah continues to thrive as a foundation of Jewish life.
All proceeds from the evening will directly benefit the Mikvah of Englewood, helping to secure its future for generations to come. Together, we can ensure this treasured institution remains a source of spiritual enrichment and connection.
