On Thursday, April 20, Ma’ayanot was honored to welcome Mrs. Rena Ariel from Kiryat Arba who shared words of inspiration in memory of her 13-year-old daughter Hallel Yaffa, Hy”d, who was murdered in her sleep by an Arab terrorist 10 months ago. Mrs. Ariel was traveling to communities in the New York/New Jersey area with her friend Elana Abelow Kronenberg. Mrs. Ariel spoke about the mixing of joy and sorrow in Jewish life and history. She reflected on her daughter’s passion for dance and her unique quality of kindness. To commemorate what would have been her daughter’s 14th birthday, Mrs. Ariel asked people to do chesed in her memory. People from around the world shared their stories of kindness. “It was the best gift,” she said. She and her family are building a playground in Kiryat Arba in memory of Hallel with the specific purpose of bringing children together and being inclusive. Mrs. Ariel encouraged students to do chesed each day and bring light into the world.
