Teaneck—NORPAC hosted a lunch event for Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) at the home of Drs. Laurie Baumel and Manuel Litchman. Since becoming a member of Congress, Rep. Chabot has served on the Committee of the Judiciary, the Committee on Small Business and the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He was named to the role of Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific in 2013 after previously serving as the Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee from 2011-2012. Rep. Chabot is also a long-standing member of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus.
As a strong supporter of Israel, Congressman Chabot has made U.S.-Israeli relations a primary focus of his tenure on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Chabot has met with numerous Israeli officials and leaders both here in the U.S. and in Israel, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, to discuss issues of importance to the Israeli people.
Rep. Chabot sat down with NORPAC members to discuss the administration’s current negotiations with Iran, which he believes is a large mistake. Instead of aiming for a deal to completely halt their nuclear program, stated the Congressman, the current deal calls for merely a delay in Tehran’s enrichment program while also letting up on some of the most effective international sanctions to date on the country. Chabot also discussed that, while he is not a strong proponent of foreign aid, he believes that aid to Israel is “money well spent” and is mutually beneficial to both our countries.
