I was somewhat concerned about Dr. Slaten’s protocol for HRT, (“Dispelling Myths About Bioidentical Hormone Replacement,” May 2, 2019) especially his recommendation of Premarin. Aside from better estrogen treatments, for example, the estradiol patch, the source of Premarin should be questioned. Premarin is derived from the urine of pregnant horses (PREgnant MAre urINe). These horses are bred and maintained for the sole purpose of getting pregnant as often as possible and tortured to extract their urine. In addition to the obvious mistreatment of these poor creatures, which goes against God’s mandate to protect and steward His creation, this medicine may not be kosher. I would suggest that women educate themselves about better options by going to the website of The North American Menopause Society – menopause.org.
