Respected Educator Returns to BPY As New Middle School Associate Principal

(Courtesy of BPY) Ben Porat Yosef (BPY), the yeshiva day school located in Paramus, has announced that a well-respected educator, Sarah Bartges, will return to the school in a newly created position as the associate principal overseeing the middle school division. She will assume her new role at the beginning of the academic year in September 2021.

In her new role, Bartges will work with fellow administrators and educators to strengthen the middle school program by increasing the levels of academic rigor and its curriculum. She will also teach some science courses.

“Morah Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and teaching experience back to BPY as we work to further build our middle school program. We’re thrilled to see such a beloved educator return ‘home’ and assume this new leadership role,” said BPY’s Head of School, Rabbi Saul Zucker.

Bartges had served as the head of BPY’s middle school science program for three years. This past academic year, she taught biology at the Idea School in Tenafly. Earlier in her career, she taught at the Rudolf Steiner School and the Columbia Secondary School, both in Manhattan.

In her previous role at BPY, Bartges helped to redesign and implement the middle school science curriculum based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary, inquiry-based and hands-on STEM learning. She also provided small group support lessons in both science and math.

“The BPY educational experience is very special and I look forward to working with students, parents and colleagues to fortify the academic offering in the middle school in time to welcome our students back in the Fall,” said Bartges.

Bartges earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from Barnard College and her master’s degree in biology education for secondary school from the City University of New York. She resides in Englewood with her family.
