A letter writer brought to our attention that there is a beautiful spiritual method of lighting the Shabbos candles (“Another Solution to an Age-Old Question,” July 25, 2024) and I sincerely thank her for the letter and reference source as well as the procedure. Being printed in The Jewish Link means it will reach countless numbers of homes who may not know of it. Personally, I am aware of that beautiful tradition and cherish it. However not all Jewish homes know of or practice it.
Additionally, the “tip” applies not only to Shabbos candles but to any candles that are to be lit. There are many times when candles are part of our Jewish lives and tradition, for example, Chanukah, yomim tovim, yahrzeit, even perhaps birthday candles on a cake, etc.
