Purim was celebrated at RKYHS with a Grade Wars-themed Kushner Cup, as each grade came together to compete against other grades, testing a variety of skills, challenges and competitions. The Purim-themed teams were involved in activities that included The Great RAE-ce apache relay, chess tournaments, school-wide musical chairs, a Chopped competition, basketball and so much more. The competition culminated in the grand finale where artistic and creative talents were displayed with student-created team videos, faculty portraits, banners, Memes, lip synch and more.

Kushner Cup kicked off with the championship round of the Zoltan Lefkovits Ping Pong tournament. Throughout the month of Adar leading up to Purim, RKYHS students participated in the Zoltan Lefkovits z”l Ping Pong tournament. Students competed in brackets in lightning tournament rounds during chug, lunch and free periods, with the semi-finals and finals played on Purim in the Epstein Stein Auditorium in front of all of RKYHS. The tournament has a deeper connection to the story of survival of Purim as it is named in memory of Zoltan Lefkovits z”l, a Holocaust survivor, by his family. Mr. Lefkovits has a remarkable story of survival, as his well-known ping pong prowess before the war spared his life during an encounter with army guards during his escape amidst the Hungarian revolution.
