RKYHS students were privileged to attend the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey’s performance of “Julius Caesar.” This tragedy of political intrigue, in which the jealous Cassius convinces the noble Brutus, and others, to assassinate Julius Caesar, was brought to life by talented performers and proves Shakespeare’s unquestionable relevance.
After the production the cast entertained questions from the audience concerning the actors’ training and inspirations. One question in particular captured the attention of the audience: that of the most significant issue in the tragedy. Referring to the two acclaimed speeches in the play, the funeral orations of Brutus and Anthony, the actor focused on the ability of a talented speaker to move the unquestioning mob.
Students were urged to take this lesson seriously, and question the veracity of information presented. Students were especially fortunate to view this production only a few days after Shakespeare’s birthday.
