The Kushner Cobras boys varsity basketball team at RKYHS traveled to Memphis for the Cooper Yeshiva High School Invitational with day schools participating from all over the country. RKYHS was the only New Jersey yeshiva high school to participate in the tournament. The team had an early start and took in the sights of Memphis. They were fortunate to get an in-depth tour of the FedEx Forum. While at the FedEx Forum the boys got to sit through a sports career panel and see the inner workings of an NBA arena. After the tour the team visited downtown Memphis including the famed Beale Street, which is considered one of the birth streets of rock ‘n roll music. After dinner, the boys were able to attend pregame warmups between the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans while sitting at court level. The boys received advice from Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry, who even posed for a team picture while donning a Kushner basketball hat. The team had a busy schedule of basketball games throughout the tournament. The team particularly enjoyed spending Shabbat with warm Memphis hospitality and bonding with other boys from Jewish day schools all over the US, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Florida, Atlanta, Maryland and New York.
