The ninth annual Rikudiah, the inter-yeshiva high school girls’ dance competition and tzedaka fundraiser, took place this past Motzei Shabbat, December 15, at RKYHS. This year was the largest event yet with over 600 dancers and guests as well as raised over $3000 for tzedaka! RKYHS was thrilled to host the competition, which gives those students interested in dance the opportunity to become leaders in their area of interest by producing something of their own, while also developing their talents in a meaningful setting. RKYHS, Hillel, Flatbush, Ma’ayanot, Central, Magen David, HANC, Ilan, SAR, HAFTR and Frisch each sent a dance team to compete.
All teams presented beautifully, with amazing talent, creative themes and complex choreography. The RKYHS team was inspired by the movie “The Greatest Showman” in their performance that combined acrobatics, and theatrics with dance.
Three professional Jewish dancers judged the competition to determine the winners. As first place winner, the Flatbush team will be choosing the tzedaka that will receive the proceeds from the event.
One of the highlights of the event is the conclusion of the program, where the girls from all the dance teams as well as the spectators dance together. It is a beautiful scene to watch several hundred yeshiva high school girls from different schools dance and sing together to contemporary Jewish music. RKYHS invites women and girls to be a part of the excitement next year at the ninth annual Rikudiah! For more information, contact CM Gerson, the Rikudiah coordinator, at [email protected].
