RKYHS Explores Artificial Intelligence

Over the course of last week, RKYHS embarked on an exploration of Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on the opportunities and challenges it presents. Students participated in a breakout session by RKYHS computer science faculty member Dr. Scott Stornetta, who is a long-time expert in the field, and an original inventor of Blockchain. They explored what AI is and how it can impact our future.

In English classes, students discussed AI and academic integrity, looking at ways AI can be used as a tool, and ways in which its use would be unethical. In Judaic Studies classes, students looked at the intersection of AI and Halacha, looking at the human dimension of psak, and whether that ability can be captured by Artificial Intelligence. Students also participated in in-depth discussions of how AI will shape their futures, and how it can be harnessed to build a better world. Additionally, students were able to play with a range of AI applications, exploring exciting new ways they can use AI.

The week culminated with a closing panel today where students heard from Dr. Stornetta, Jonathan Pedoeem (JKHA 2011/RKYHS 2015), founder of Promptlayer, an AI-based start-up, and Jeff Minsky, former school parent and industry leader and expert on AI, on their experience with artificial intelligence, capabilities and where it’s headed.
