Sixteen students from the RKYHS homeless awareness chug participated in “Street Torah” right outside Newark’s Penn Station. The students distributed food and clothing to well over 75 homeless people. Prior to this event, students in the chug prepared for this event by organizing and sorting the clothes by ages and genders. The students all felt so moved to be helping those who are so less fortunate than they are. They decided to do something about the growing number of homeless people and were shocked to learn that over 1.5 million people are currently homeless in America today. Their experience opened their eyes to gain insight into the homeless they met, and that they have the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Thursday’s visit really stood out in the students’ minds as they prepared for Rosh Hashanah and the High Holiday season.
