The Kushner Cobras topped the Ma’ayanot Rapids, 34-29, on Sunday morning. While the weather outside was frigid, the atmosphere in the gym was hot. The energy from the fans and benches was electric. The game went back and forth for a good part of the first half but the Rapids took a three point lead at halftime. Kushner fought back in a great team effort with the leadership of senior Sophie Baum. She guided the Kushner offense with patience and poise. In the fourth quarter, Sophie’s hustle back on defense and her ability to draw a crucial offensive foul were huge for the Cobras. Senior Emily Tennenberg led the Cobras in assists to help spark a second half comeback that saw Kushner take the lead for a good part of the second half. Senior Atara Friedman’s quick hands on defense and clutch 3-pointer down the stretch extended the Cobras’ lead late in the game. With the victory Kushner improved its record to 5-6 to stay alive for the playoffs. This comes off the heels of a previous impressive win over Central 55-34.
