RKYHS Macroeconomics Students Learn About the Stock Market in Real Time

For many months, students in the AP Macroeconomics class at RKYHS have been learning about how our economic system works and how government policy impacts economic performance. Students began a stock market simulation where they invested $100,000 to create a model portfolio. Students were then challenged to relate the performance of their individual stocks to developing micro and macroeconomic data.

Last week, the Federal Reserve (FOMC) convened to re-calibrate interest rate policy in the United States. In class, students saw in real time how the policy announcement of the Federal Reserve impacted world markets and how that decision impacted their own self-selected basket of investments.

Throughout the year, the students in the AP Macroeconomics class have worked intently to understand how this modern economic cosmos operates and the unique choices and opportunities this system presents.
