RKYHS students welcomed high school students from Miftaahul Uloom Academy, a private Islamic school located in Union City. During the school year, the two groups have connected, and the interaction culminated with a visit with RKYHS juniors. This was done as part of an Islamic-Jewish Exchange Program intended to cultivate respect, tolerance and positive memories for all involved. The visitors toured the school, attended the slam poetry competition, visited the Holocaust Gardens and observed a mincha service—which led to a great group discussion among the students. The main focus of the conversation was regarding religious beliefs and customs of both religions, along with a joint upcoming social action project. The participants agreed that it was outstanding to be able to learn about each other’s cultures in this manner.
