The SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group met to hear from speaker Donna Setaro one of the champions of the “Slow Down and Move Over” law. Setaro’s son New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano, was killed when he was hit by a driver who failed to move over while Castellano was conducting a search. Drivers who fail to slow down and move over when they see a first responder’s vehicle stopped with its emergency lights will now face increased penalties under the law. Setaro offered insight into the dangers these first responders face and the rates of fatalities they face. She gave students a glimpse of her son and the life that was lost.
