RKYHS SOAR Program Visits Peers at School in Newark

RKYHS students in the SOAR (Seminar on Antisemitism and Racism) program visited their fellow SOAR participants from St. Benedicts Prep in Newark at their school. Our RKYHS students enjoyed experiencing the school’s morning convocation meeting and feeling the energy of their weekly full school gathering. They also learned about the Building Bridges program that the school takes part in, connecting the community with local law enforcement and had the opportunity to cheer on their SBP friends as the girls played a volleyball game against NJ State Troopers as part of the Building Bridges program. The visit also included a tour of their historic school and discussion around current and timely topics. The two groups of students meet weekly over zoom to study and discuss the history, commonalities and differences between racial injustice and antisemitism, increasing cultural and racial understanding and awareness, and jointly combatting all forms of hate. As a supplement to their weekly zoom seminars, the students have opportunities throughout the year for fun and relationship building.
