Twenty-five students from the Sports Management Club were invited by the Philadelphia 76ers for a special experience. The afternoon began with access to play basketball on the Sixers court, followed by a tour of the Wells Fargo Center where they saw what goes on behind the scenes.
Then, upper management hosted the students in their conference room for a “Professionals in Sports” seminar featuring Leo Cardenas, manager of group sales. He shared with the students his interesting background of how he landed in the sports industry, offered crucial career tips in how to be successful in this field and practical tips about what students can do now to pave the way for a successful journey in sports management.
At a previous event, The Sports Management Club heard from Kelvin Joseph, chief operating officer and chief marketing officer at Steiner Sports. Joseph spoke about what he does on a day to day basis— including how he deals with sponsorships, naming rights, athlete appearances, brand endorsements, special events and more. He shared some examples of how he enjoys close personal relationships with professional teams, star athletes and sports media and how it puts him in a unique position to guide corporate clients’ access to appropriate sports figures and assets to build their brand.
