For their summer reading assignment, students at RKYHS were given a list of books that were recommended by their teachers. The faculty recommendations came from their teachers across the board, and not just their English faculty. Science and math teachers, Judaic Studies rebbeim, guidance counselors, administration, office staff and more offered up their picks for the students. Students recently got together in small groups to engage in discussions of their books with the faculty member who had recommended it. From classics and historical accounts to contemporary works and biographies and many other fiction and non-fiction options, students enjoyed reading the breadth of books offered. The lively school-wide discussions offered a great opportunity for teachers across all disciplines to be unified in showing students an appreciation for reading and book discussions.
RKYHS Judaic Studies faculty shared various topics of Torah learning of interest with their students and invited them to join in their learning over the summer. Topics ranged from classic works to modern essays to engaging podcasts. The options gave students a window into areas of Torah literature that they would not normally explore. Tenth, 11th and 12th grade students had the opportunity to meet with their teachers to discuss and share ideas about the summer learning together.
