Students from RKYHS had the privilege to hear from Ed Mosberg, who spoke to them about his harrowing experiences as a survivor of the Holocaust. Students listened with rapt attention as Mr. Mosberg emotionally described some of the horrors he experienced. Mr. Mosberg is the sole survivor of 16 members of his family and survived the Krakow Ghetto, and the Plaszow, Mauthausen and Linz concentration camps. Mr. Mosberg brought with him some of the many Holocaust-related articles and personal items he has amassed, including his and his wife, Cecile Mosberg’s z”l, striped concentration camp uniforms, items from concentration camps, a Torah he rescued from Poland and others.
Mr. Mosberg has been speaking with NFL player DeSean Jackson, who recently made public anti-Semitic comments, to work with him on Holocaust education. He detailed for students his interaction with Jackson and others and expressed to students the lack of education surrounding the Holocaust and impressed upon them their duty to own his story and bear witness to what he endured. His personal story of strength and resilience served as an inspiration for students as they headed into Rosh Hashana.
