RKYHS Students Participate in Brain Research Symposium

RKYHS students were invited to participate in the Ben-Gurion University Brain Research Symposium in New York City. The students heard from Prof. Daniel Chamovitz, president of Ben Gurion University, who moderated the forum that included BGU faculty who are internationally recognized leaders in the field of brain research. The panel included Prof. Ilan Dinstein, director of the Israel National Autism Research Center, who discussed the molecular genetics of autism in the context of our developing understanding of brain structure; Prof. Galia Avidan, the Rivka Carmi chair for the Advancement of Women’s Leadership in Academia in the Field of Neuropsychology, who discussed advances in the understanding of brain connections as neural networks in the context of human face recognition; and Prof. Alon Friedman, chair in Neurology, whose recent studies related to traumatic brain injury has been widely published in the popular press, particularly as related to identification and treatment of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), concussion and microvascular injury in the brain. More than 250 people were in attendance at the Intercontinental Hotel in Times Square.
