The RKYHS Model United Nations team attended the 32nd annual Yeshiva University conference in Stamford, Connecticut last week. After a two year break, the conference was back in person. The excitement of the 10 team members was palpable as they represented Singapore and Guatemala in a number of committees ranging from the Middle East Summit to the World Food Program. The students truly enjoy the competitive environment and chance to meet fellow yeshiva students from all over the U.S. and around the world. The student-run simulation of the workings of the real UN gives students an opportunity to experience and learn about the complex landscape of international diplomacy. Playing the roles of delegates to actual UN member nations, students represent a variety of positions and advocate for a given country, researching that country’s interests and policies across a wide range of issues and concerns.
A special yashar koach to RKYHS students Ben L. and Samuel C. who took home honorable mention awards. Ben represented Guatemala in the Disarmament and International Security committee (DISEC) where he debated topics to make the world safer, and Samuel participated in the WHO committee and discussed issues of equitable vaccine distribution and genome editing, while sitting in 11 hours of committee sessions of debate and drafting of resolutions.
