RKYHS held its second annual Hackathon with 20 students from grades nine-12 competing in teams to brainstorm a solution to the challenge: “We’re out of date, let’s automate.” Teams were challenged to present a business case proving the need for their solution, a user interface that showed how users would navigate through the application and computer programs to display at least three functions of the system. After eight hours of intense work, the teams presented their work to a group of parents and faculty judges. The students’ ingenuity, tenacity and skills created prototypes that everyone is eager to see developed into a robust system to be put to use in school. The Hackathon continues the RKYHS STEM department’s goal to have students learn science by doing science.
