The RKYHS Model UN team attended the Yeshiva University conference in Stamford. The 10 students represented Australia and Vietnam in a variety of committees such as the World Food Program and Counter Terrorism, debating the global issues of our time. The students truly enjoyed the competitive environment and chance to meet fellow yeshiva students from all over the US and from real life nations like Brazil, Canada and South Africa. In addition to broadening their awareness and knowledge of world affairs and geopolitics, they developed their research and public speaking skills. There were well over 400 students competing from over 45 yeshivas in the Yeshiva University annual contest representing their specific school delegation in over a dozen committees.
RKYHS senior Danielle Shapiro won first place and the Best Delegate award for her work with members of the UNESCO committee, as part of a student-run simulation of the workings of the real United Nations. Danielle represented Australia and worked with members of the UNESCO committee to research, submit working papers, debate and pass resolutions on topics dealing with education for inmates as an issue of prison reform and the preservation of endangered languages as it relates to promoting diversity of cultures.
