Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

One of the joys of the Pesach preparation process in early childhood and kindergarten at RPRY is the visit of the Matzah Factory! The students were treated to a literally hands-on encounter with making matzah. The beit midrash was transformed into an authentic bakery, complete with an oven, a flour room, a water room, a flour sifter, a wheat grinder, an 18-minute timer, lots of mixing bowls, rolling pins and hole pokers, and even a few frogs thrown in for fun. Pharaoh/Moshe/the farmer/the baker led students through the Pesach story from slavery to freedom, teaching how matzah is made along the way. They were able to knead, smush and roll the dough into circle-ish shapes, poke holes in them and give them to the baker to put in the oven. The delicious smells and tastes of the matzot rounded out this memorable, meaningful matzah-making experience!
