Thursday’s celebration of Tu B’Shevat at RPRY was musical, dramatic, spiritual and festive. All of EC gathered in the Beit Midrash for a dance party and show in honor of the birthday of the trees. Each class performed a Tu B’Shevat dance, adorned with costumes and props. Yellow streamers for our pre-nursery tziporim/birds; hand-decorated tree necklaces for our nursery; a variety of planting-related props (shovels, seeds, trees, flowers and sunshine) for pre-k; and green grass, branches, nests, eggs and birds for kindergarten. Our finale consisted of the entire EC dancing “Mayim, Mayim” in acknowledgment of the vital role that water plays in the life of our precious trees. Everyone marveled at how this is the time—in the middle of winter, with snow on the branches—that Jewish people celebrate the trees, their value and all that they contribute to our lives.
